updated February 11, 2008 I'm Matt Thorn, a cultural anthropologist who studies, teaches and writes about comics and other forms of popular culture. I live and work in Japan, where I'm an Associate Professor in the School of Manga Production at Kyoto Seika University. I also professionally translated Japanese comics, known as manga, from 1990 to 1999. I created this site in 1996 to introduce people to Japanese girls' and women's comics, or shôjo manga (also written "shoujo manga" or "shojo manga"), but as you can see below, I've diversified a bit. Please note that some pages are still under construction and won't be available for a while. Explore and enjoy! ♠ Matt's December 2005 interview with HAGIO Moto ♠ ♢If you are writing a paper on manga and want to ask me something, please read this first!♢ |
